CLEANING OUT THE LINK CAGE, November 11, 2009: STAR WARS Lawn Trinkets; Ayn Rand Cha Cha Cha and the Beauty of New Mexico Womens Soccer
Assorted link things.
- Garden Jawas are now available for your lawn decoration needs.
- I’ve never read ATLAS SHRUGGED, but I love Brian Doherty’s story in REASON Magazine this month detailing all of the Ayn Rand flava that is abuzz in our country. The following excerpt from Doherty’s piece particularly makes me want to add ATLAS to my reading list (bold emphases all mine):
- Speaking of great stuff in REASON this month, you really must read Peter Bagge’s take on all the Ayn Rand cha cha cha. I love Bagge. He is a hero.
Political relevance for Rand’s work—translating the message of Atlas Shrugged into something useful in everyday life—is tricky. The Atlas Shrugged devotee who wants to change the world might note with disquiet that in the novel’s world, nothing got better until everything collapsed, with Eddie Willers, Rand’s stand-in for the average right-thinking, good-hearted, but not superbright American, weeping before a stalled train beneath an uncaring night sky.
- And speaking of heroes, I don’t care what anyone says. The violent womens soccer player who recently got caught in the 24-hour news cycle is a National Treasure. I love her too.
- My congressman wants to kill me…with laughter.
- North Korean video arcade. Again, via Boing Boing.
