*Why is Christopher Hitchens kick­ing it with Sean Penn? A strange pair­ing, to be sure — par­tic­u­larly because Hitchens doesn’t suf­fer such dreary stu­pid­faces gladly — and this pic­ture cap­tures the strange­ness quo­tient quite nicely (that’s Hitch sit­ting right behind Penn):

*A Russian polit­i­cal ana­lyst sees the United States even­tu­ally frag­ment­ing into the ter­ri­to­ries seen below:

*Here’s another cheery pro­jec­tion for America.

*Johnny Depp film sucker-punches the Columbus, Wisconsin, econ­omy. I’ll repeat: haven’t any of you learned yet? Depp is hor­ri­ble; don’t let him in to your state to make films. Pal Mike D thinks I’m off my rocker with this scathing assess­ment of Depp — he puts Depp on equal foot­ing as such act­ing greats as Marlon Brando. But Mike D and oth­ers — please hear me out: If a thes­pian is going to pur­sue “chal­leng­ing” and “quirky” act­ing roles, he should have somefaint neu­roses avail­able to tap into. Some com­plex­ity within his char­ac­ter that tran­scends van­ity, which is all I expe­ri­ence when watch­ing Depp — his van­ity, his fuck­ing cheek­bones and that vain­glo­ri­ous sneer that screams “Look at me! I’m act­ing! I’m MAGNIFICENT!” Sorry. I can’t get beyond the van­ity, Depp. You reached the height of your act­ing pow­ers on 21 JUMP STREET. Have you ever had one legit­i­mately bad day in your entire life? (And the day you couldn’t remove your Winona Ryder tat­too doesn’t count, bunky.) Begone, gnat. By the way, the always enter­tain­ing Greg Gutfeld has a few nice thoughts on Depp here.

*Prince is still com­pletely nuts, and it’s frickin’ hilar­i­ous.
