• I’ve never read ATLAS SHRUGGED, but I love Brian Doherty’s story in REASON Magazine this month detail­ing all of the Ayn Rand flava that is abuzz in our coun­try. The fol­low­ing excerpt from Doherty’s piece par­tic­u­larly makes me want to add ATLAS to my read­ing list (bold emphases all mine):

Political rel­e­vance for Rand’s work — trans­lat­ing the mes­sage of Atlas Shrugged into some­thing use­ful in every­day life — is tricky. The Atlas Shrugged devo­tee who wants to change the world might note with dis­quiet that in the novel’s world, noth­ing got bet­ter until every­thing col­lapsed, with Eddie Willers, Rand’s stand-in for the aver­age right-thinking, good-hearted, but not super­bright American, weep­ing before a stalled train beneath an uncar­ing night sky.

• Speaking of great stuff in REASON this month, you really must read Peter Bagge’s take on all the Ayn Rand cha cha cha. I love Bagge. He is a hero.

• And speak­ing of heroes, I don’t care what any­one says. The vio­lent wom­ens soc­cer player who recently got caught in the 24-hour news cycle is a National Treasure. I love her too.

• My con­gress­man wants to kill me…with laugh­ter.
