Wherein I Discover the Genius of Wally George

I must have been spending the last couple of decades in a hermetically sealed egg, because somehow I missed out on the treasure that is Wally George and his old UHF show Hot Seat. That all changed tonight, though, when a YouTube search introduced me to this very funny clip of Jim and Debbie Goad on Hot Seat:

At one point, Wally blasts the Goads for publishing an Answer Me! article called “Babies Are Dirty and Disgusting.” After berating Debbie, Wally explodes, “I SAY BABIES ARE BEAUTIFUL!!” The audience responds with an awesome (but brief) chant of “BABIES!! BABIES!! BABIES!!

So many laughs. Growing up in the 80s, I was a big fan of Morton Downey Jr.‘s show. But Hot Seat is like Mort on steroids. Unmitigated righteousness.

Wikipedia provides the requisite background info:

George Walter Pearch, known as Wally George (4 December 1931 – 7 October 2003) was an American conservative radio and television commentator. Calling himself the “Father of Combat TV,” George gained national fame as the host of the television talk show Hot Seat, originally a local show produced for KDOC Channel 56, a UHF station then located in Anaheim, California.

Each YouTube clip is heaven-sent. View as many as you can in one sitting. Here’s an episode with GWAR:

And here’s one with the Mentors.

And maybe the best thing I got out of this whole experience, Rudi Krause:
